Municipal Elections

Candidates vying for political office are finding that attracting the condo vote requires new approaches.

Condo residents now comprise a large portion of city residents.  In some ridings condo residents now comprise a solid majority of voters.  Effectively reaching these people will not be through traditional ways of canvassing for votes.

The dominant demographic in most condo buildings is between 40 and 70 years old.  At least half are likely to be single.  Reaching these people, who often do not have land lines and may be out more often than in, is a challenge.  Mobile numbers are changed with sufficient frequency to make it difficult for phone communications.

Municipal councillors

 play 3 main roles:

  • Representative of residents’ views and concerns
  • Policymaker to establish the direction of the municipality and its future actions
  • Steward of public finances

Why vote for you:

  • What do you feel sets you apart from the other candidates?
  • Why should constituents vote for you?
  • Why do you feel you should represent [ward/district]?

Municipal elections are a time to separate out those who are running because they want to be somebody from those who are running because they want to do something.

Garbage Collection and Recycling

Where do you stand on the Food Waste bylaw as it applies to Condominiums?

What would you do to reduce or eliminate the gap between single family homeowners and Multi residential home owners in services provided by the city?

Property Taxes/Assessments

Where do you stand on the user pay for all city services for all residential homeowners regardless of type of home owned?

More to come...
